The Quick Stump-Away skid steer stump grinder is built in two hydraulic configurations so it matches the machine you already own. The standard flow model runs on 15 to 30 GPM and the high flow model runs on 31 to 42 GPM; both spin the same 24 inch wheel at 590 to 1,100 RPM. Between the two, this stump grinder attachment covers the full hydraulic range of nearly every skid steer, skid loader and compact track loader working in North America today.
Find the auxiliary hydraulic flow rating in your machine's operator manual, usually listed in gallons per minute. If it reads between 15 and 30 GPM, order the standard flow stump grinder. If it reads 31 GPM or higher, order the high flow model. Running a high flow attachment on a standard flow machine will not damage anything, but the wheel will turn slower. Running a standard flow attachment on a high flow machine is the arrangement to avoid, because the extra flow has nowhere to go.
Both models require a case drain, a third hydraulic line that returns leaked oil from inside the motor housing straight back to the tank instead of letting pressure build up behind the motor seal. Most skid steers built in the last fifteen years already have a case drain port at the boom coupler. The Quick Stump-Away has an operating weight of 540 lb. Check that figure against your machine's rated operating capacity, also in the operator manual. At 540 lb this attachment sits comfortably inside the capacity of virtually every full-size skid steer.
The Quick Stump-Away uses the industry-standard skid steer quick-attach mounting plate, so it connects to the machines most contractors already run: Bobcat, Kubota, Cat, John Deere, Case, New Holland and Takeuchi skid steers, as well as compact track loaders (CTLs) and skid loaders from the same manufacturers. If your machine takes a universal skid steer attachment and meets the hydraulic flow requirement above, it will run this stump grinder.
Any full-size skid steer or skid loader with a universal quick-attach plate, auxiliary hydraulics between 15 and 42 GPM and a case drain port will run it, with plenty of margin below the rated operating capacity of standard and large-frame machines alike. Compact track loaders take the same mounting plate, so it fits them without adaptation - tracked machines are often the better carrier for stump work, since the tracks spread the machine's weight and leave less ground damage on finished lawns.

The Quick Stump-Away runs 32 replaceable carbide teeth on a 1/2 inch thick, 24 inch steel cutting wheel. Carbide is a hardened tungsten compound, far harder than the steel it is mounted to, which is why carbide teeth stay sharp through dirt, grit and buried stone that would blunt a plain steel cutter within a single job. Thirty-two teeth across the wheel means each one takes a smaller bite, so the cut stays smooth and the teeth wear evenly instead of one or two doing all the work.
Green Teeth are a three-sided tooth design available as an option. Instead of replacing a tooth when its cutting edge dulls, you loosen it, rotate it to a fresh face, and tighten it again — three working edges from one tooth. For a contractor grinding stumps every week, that is the difference between a full tooth change and a ten-minute rotation in the yard. It's the option to take if you are grinding regularly or working in gritty, sandy or rocky soil.
Every tooth is individually replaceable, so a damaged tooth never means a new wheel. Full replacement tooth sets, replacement threaded tooth holders and 5/8 inch by 2 inch recessed holder bolts are all available. The Quick Stump-Away handles stumps up to 32 inches in diameter and grinds to 8 inches below ground level. The 24 inch cutting wheel sweeps through a 55 degree arc, so on stumps wider than the wheel itself the operator works across the face in passes rather than trying to take the whole stump at once. Grinding to 8 inches below grade removes the root crown as well as the visible stump, which is what you need if the ground is going to be turfed, paved or built on afterwards.
That depends on which of the two models you order. The standard flow Quick Stump-Away needs 15 to 30 GPM and turns the cutting wheel at 500 to 1,000 RPM. The high flow model needs 31 to 42 GPM and turns the same wheel at 900 to 1,200 RPM. Check your machine's auxiliary hydraulic flow rating in its operator manual and match it to the right model. Both models also require a case drain line, which is a third hydraulic line that returns internal motor leakage to the tank and stops pressure building behind the motor seal.

Bi-directional means the cutting wheel cuts in both directions of travel, so the operator can sweep left across the stump and then sweep right without repositioning the machine between passes. On a conventional single-direction grinder you waste the return stroke. Over a full day of stump work that saved motion adds up to a meaningful number of extra stumps, and it also means less repeated manoeuvring on soft or finished ground where every pass of the tracks leaves a mark.
The Quick Stump-Away is direct drive, meaning the hydraulic motor turns the cutting wheel directly with no gear reduction between them. A gear box is one more sealed assembly full of oil, bearings and gears, and it is the component most likely to fail on a machine that spends its life absorbing shock loads from buried rocks. Removing it removes that failure point along with the servicing that goes with it, and it means every bit of hydraulic power your machine produces goes into the wheel rather than being lost in the gear train.
